Jenn’s Municipal Priorities
Housing
While not a direct responsibility of municipalities, all levels of government need to be working on this priority to ensure people are housed.
Through work on the Sunset Community Board, with support from Cumberland County, on Sunrise Landing Housing Development I hope to continue to make housing more accessible for all.
Protective Services
Take measures to make safer communities through relationship building with RCMP and Citizens on patrol, support for our Cumberland Volunteer Fire Services, and Emergency Management Education.
Rural Recreation & Youth Services/Support
I hope to continue my work with CCRCE to gain more access to gyms for more robust youth recreation options. I want to continue to build summer recreation programming in Pugwash, put more focus on enhancing Sport Pugwash and to create more inclusion for youth in government decision and programs.
Past term: I attended citizenship class at PDHS, organized Cumberland Youth Council, helped with TedxPugwash which included youth speakers, and helped with Pathways to Resiliency Project.
Tourism & Economic Development
Community Enhancements are a key in my opinion to positive growth. Projects that will draw tourists and help to continue to put Pugwash on the map. Any idea that encourages people to turn left at Amherst / Sunrise Trail Destinations is great for us.
By working with the Village of Pugwash on Main Street upgrades, Sidewalks, Supporting Small and Local Businesses, and sharing Explore Cumberland County information widely.
Asset Management
Cumberland County Municipality owns 684M in Assets, we will need to continue to replace and maintain aging assets according to the 5 year Capital Plan and Asset Management Plan that was created.
Although this may not be the most exciting part of the government, it is a high priority for me that will save us money in the long run.
Renewable Energy & Climate Change
I hope to continue to work with the Provincial department of Natural Resources and Renewables and NSCC through the Cumberland Geothermal Energy Committee to bring a more sustainable geothermal district energy system to Cumberland County.
Food Security
I continue to support food banks and all the organizations that are supporting people who need access to food. By gathering organizations and individuals together to network and communicate on issues and solutions for food insecurity we all become stronger.
Helping provide governments with data collected in Cumberland gives us a much more accurate picture of what the needs truly are.
